If you are considering having a web site designed for you no doubt you will have been looking at the many differing styles of sites on the Internet. If not, this is a very good place to start. I strongly recommend that you take time to familiarise yourself with examples of just what can be achieved in terms of style and function.
Web sites can be defined in various different categories based on how they function, in other words what tasks they can perform. In business terms, one very common yet effective style of site that most people will have encountered is the 'brochure style" web site. It acts as an informative site on a basic level, getting across information to it's audience. Usually advertising a business venture.
At the opposite end of the spectrum we have multi-purpose Portal and larger E-commerce sites with attached databases containing lists of saleable products for on-line consumption.
To demystify all these terms and the process of getting a working web presence by thorough explanation. My advice is that you look at current sites. Contact different designers. Get feedback and quotes.( My rates are very competitive! ) As you read on you'll realise the purpose of these introduction pages is to enable my clients to make an informed choice as to the type of site that best meets their requirements. So please take time to digest the information (and feel free to call for a chat if there is any thing you feel could be explained further!)
As for categorising sites in other ways , for instance via their style, as in any creative medium it's true to say that here "any thing goes!" However, I feel that whatever trends come and go, good design never goes out of fashion. Good design isn't just about layout and colours, though the fact I have a background in graphic design is an advantage in this area. Good design and strong technical details means more. It means your customers don't get "lost" because your page links aren't obvious or your page order illogical. It means they don't get bored reading too much concentrated text. It's about understanding that what works on paper doesn't always work on a screen .A good site design has as much to do with easy navigation as style and colours.
To this end I aim to make each site I create easy on the eye, the intellect, and the pocket. Whatever it is you require I hope to provide you with a friendly and professional service.
